At a Glance

One of the world’s largest consumer goods manufacturing companies, serving over 190 countries and more than 400 household brands, engaged Credera to overhaul their current operational decision manager (ODM). Together, we worked to create an updated, scalable business rules engine (BRE) that accounted for the company’s existing ODM rules and the scale of the business.

The Challenge

Underperforming legacy system that can’t meet large-scale order volumes.

The consumer goods manufacturing company was operating on an outdated system to manage customer orders across hubs, rendering them unable to operate efficiently across their global network. Together, we identified a solution for the company that addressed the following challenges:

  • Need to analyze existing business rules and segregate them based on the outcome of the rule execution

  • A global framework that could extend to all the other hubs in real-time

  • Need to automatically execute order validations

  • Ability to handle high volumes of requests and orders across hubs

  • Need to track and report the changes made for each order validation

The Solution

A robust business rules engine that can scale globally.

We partnered with the manufacturing company to develop a solution that addressed their major pain points, equipping them with a tailored business rules engine that provided the following:

  • System integration through representational state transfer (REST) web services for any order validation request

  • Order request processing that goes through the set of business rules that are defined in the decision tables and sends the response back to update the error correction code (ECC) accordingly

  • Business configurational portal for approved users to configure rules, then test and deploy them

  • Reusable functions that can be used across all the rules in the decision tables

  • Access for approved users to maintain ruleset versioning and deployment as needed

Our solution was built using Pega Case Management to create a new, innovative business rules engine application that replaced the legacy ODM system the company was currently operating on.
