At Credera, we believe we’re truly better together. The Roster is a monthly series that allows you to get to know leaders at all levels across the firm. This month, Olin Moran, Amanda Bsaibes, and Ariel Hooper share some insight into their personal and professional lives.
Favorite Movie/TV Show: I love binge-watching shows with my wife, so this answer changes frequently. Right now, our favorite show is Yellowstone.
Favorite Sports Team: This is a tough one. I grew up in Mexico, so I would have to say that the Mexico national team (soccer) is my number one. But I’m also a big football fan and the Cowboys are my team!
Hobbies Outside of Work: I love being active and I love eating out, so when I’m not working, you can find me doing some sort of workout or going out to dinner with my wife, Alye.
Best Advice You’ve Ever Received: One of the best pieces of advice that I ever got was from my dad. He would always tell me to do it the right way from the get-go, because cutting corners will force me to do it again.
Favorite Thing About Working at Credera: My favorite thing is the people I get to work with. I feel like I’m always learning from the best of the best and rubbing shoulders with people that share the same values that I do.
How You Avoid Work-From-Home Burnout: I avoid work-from-home burnout by looking for opportunities to step away from my desk a few times a week. Throughout the pandemic, I would try to take “walk-calls” or go to a coffee shop to work for a few hours. It’s also important for me to stay active, so I’ll ride the bike or go for a run as much as I can.
Favorite Sports Team: Texas A&M Football - gig 'em!
Best Concert Experience: The National Parks toured and held some low-key concerts in random backyards across the country. Someone in Dallas near White Rock Lake opened up their backyard and everyone attending got to sit outside on blankets and enjoy a really intimate concert! It was an incredible experience and so much fun meeting the band afterward!
Hobbies Outside of Work: In Dallas, I really enjoy kickboxing, walking around White Rock Lake, and trying out different restaurants with my friends. I also love traveling, especially to the mountains, and have taken advantage of work-from-home to visit a few cities, including Seattle, Denver, and Asheville, NC!
Best Advice You’ve Ever Received: "If something is worth doing, it's worth doing poorly."
Taken out of context, this seems like strange or bad advice, but it really spoke to the perfectionist in me. There were times when I didn't want to start a task because it seemed too daunting to finish, regardless of the actual size of the task. This often meant that I'd end up not even starting. Hearing this advice reminded me that doing something, even if it’s just 5% of the task, is better than not doing any part of it. And, more often than not, I’d end up completing way more of the task once I got started, but the most important part was simply to start.
Favorite Thing About Working at Credera: Without a doubt, the best part about working at Credera has to be my incredible coworkers. I am surrounded by immensely talented, humble, and caring people who are always willing to help one another and push each other to be better employees and better people.
Personal Goal: I've recently become very interested in woodworking, so a personal goal of mine is to attend classes in Dallas at the local makerspace and hopefully create something impressive!
Best Restaurant in Dallas: BAR-Ranch Steak Company in Downtown Plano. If you’re looking to spoil yourself with some steak in a super cool and unique setting, this is the spot! Their Instagram will have you drooling!
Favorite Movie/TV Show: I’m a huge Breaking Bad fan and will never turn down The Shawshank Redemption. I also love a good episode of Dateline!
Hobbies Outside of Work: I LOVE puzzles and have done over 60 this year! My favorite brands are Liberty Puzzles and The Magic Puzzle Company.
Favorite Employee Resource Group at Credera: I’ve really enjoyed being a part of the Credera Women’s Network (CWN) and sitting in on their events. I’ve learned a lot from their micro-series, executive leadership panels, and small group discussions. It’s great to connect with a diverse group of women and learn from their experiences and knowledge.
Favorite Thing About Working at Credera: I love Credera’s mission and the people who work here. Our core values are more than clichés stickered to an office wall—these values are deeply embedded into the way Crederians treat their clients, colleagues, and communities.
How You Avoid Work-From-Home Burnout: Sometimes something as simple as changing which room I’m working in helps keep my mind alert. Other times, I need a full mental refresh by taking my dog on a walk and enjoying some sun. I also find value in blocking time off on my calendar for uninterrupted “deep work” time.
