Key takeaways from the Salesforce Spring '25 release webinar

Have you caught up on the latest features from the Spring '25 release of Salesforce yet? In February 2025, Credera's Salesforce chief technology officer, Keir Bowden, presented a webinar that provided a thorough overview of the new updates and features. From Agentforce enhancements to vital platform upgrades and customization options, here’s a quick recap of the key takeaways you won’t want to miss!

Features being retired in the Spring '25 release

As part of the Spring '25 release, several legacy features are being retired. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Lightning Adoption Applications: Retired on Jan. 10, 2025, likely due to over 98% Lightning adoption.

  • Einstein Automated Contacts: Set to retire in February 2025; you should transition to Einstein Activity Capture.

  • Pipeline Inspection Close Date Predictions: Retiring with this release; switch to Einstein Opportunity Scoring

  • Classic Knowledge: Scheduled to retire in summer 2025; you must migrate to Lightning Knowledge.

  • Enhanced Email Experience: Support ends in summer 2025; transition to Classic Email Builder.

  • Salesforce for Outlook: Scheduled for retirement in December 2027; you should switch to Outlook Integration. Find out more about what you need to do to prepare for the end of Salesforce for Outlook at Salesforce Ben.

General Salesforce update highlights

Salesforce introduced a new section on the system overview page. It allows administrators to monitor login license usage to track any users exceeding a custom object allowance of 10, helping manage user allowances effectively.

Salesforce Foundations now offers free access to a selection of features for organizations on the Enterprise edition or higher. Salesforce Foundations is a new, no-cost addition to your existing Sales Cloud or Service Cloud package that equips you to expand your business reach. It allows you to explore various offerings, including Agentforce, Data Cloud, and Commerce Cloud, giving you a taste of advanced functionalities before committing to full licenses. Check out the Trailhead article to find out which Salesforce Foundations features you can get with your existing customer relationship management system

Additionally, Salesforce plans to enforce future restrictions on third-party cookies, so you should prepare for potential changes.

What’s new in Agentforce?

The Spring '25 release brings significant enhancements to Agentforce:

  • Consumption tracking: You can now track your agent consumption in digital wallets under consumption cards, allowing for clear visibility of their agent allowance (e.g., 1,000 total, with current usage displayed). This addresses a long-standing request, eliminating the need to contact account executives for updates.

    • A new flow template allows you to set up alerts when your consumption exceeds a predefined threshold, helping you manage usage proactively.

    • A consumption insights page provides analytics on agent usage over time, enabling you to identify spikes and understand consumption patterns.

  • Governance and version management: You can now maintain an active agent while working on new versions, with the ability to create up to 20 versions of a single agent for flexibility.

  • New agent setup: The Agentforce setup feature helps troubleshoot user actions and create report types, though it may be available later rather than immediately.

Analytics and customization updates: Streamlining data insights

The analytics features have received a makeover, particularly in Lightning Reports. Charts now match the sort order of reports, ensuring consistent data presentation. You can also filter Data Cloud reports based on aggregate values.

Customization options have been expanded with the introduction of enhanced role and permission set list views, allowing for better management and filtering of user access. These updates are rendered with Lightning Web Components.

Development updates: Improving control and security

  • API version requirement: You must now explicitly specify the API version for Lightning Web Components when saving them.

  • Tightened iframe restrictions: The iframe security settings have been enhanced. Even if the source parameter matches the domain of the containing page, cross-origin restrictions will be applied. This change may affect communication between frames and pages if not properly configured.

  • Local development availability: Local development for Lightning apps is now generally available, making it easier for a developer to build and test applications in their own environments.

  • Apex enhancements

    • The limit for long-running requests is now based on licenses: every 100 licenses provide one additional long-running request, with a minimum of 10 for all users.

    • You can also pause and resume scheduled jobs in Apex.

    • Zip handling capabilities are now available natively in Apex, eliminating the need for third-party libraries. More on Zip handling capabilities here

  • Data masking enhancements: Einstein can now generate custom libraries for data masking based on user-defined criteria, and there’s a new option to run data masking immediately upon sandbox refresh.

Cloud-specific changes: Streamlining operations for every team

Experience Cloud

The Spring '25 release introduces enhanced Lightning Web Runtime sites, combining content management with improved visibility and functionality. You can now upload files directly from these sites to Salesforce, a feature previously limited to Aura sites.

Marketing Cloud/Account Engagement

A new Data Cloud bundle for Account Engagement automates the creation of streams and field mappings, while enhancements to email functionalities and generative artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities improve your campaign management.

Sales Cloud

New features facilitate easier tracking of progress against account plan objectives, allowing you to specify tasks and events associated with various records for better collaboration.

Service Cloud

Updates in Service Cloud include new configurations for flagging critical service issues and enhanced monitoring capabilities for supervisors. The improvements aim to streamline communication and service delivery.

Beta features to watch

Here are some exciting beta features to look for in the coming releases:

  • Salesforce Lightning Design System version 2: Now with improved icons and typography.

  • Dashboard widget refreshing: Choose specific widgets to refresh instead of the entire dashboard.

  • Email subscription consistency: Designate a single email address for report subscriptions to reduce spoofing risks.

  • Auto-launch flows: Automatically trigger flows in the background based on input value changes.

The bottom line

The Spring '25 release is packed with features that enhance productivity, user experience, and overall functionality across Salesforce platforms. While we've highlighted some key updates, there are many more changes not covered here.
