Credera, a global, boutique consulting firm focused on strategy, innovation, data, and technology, is pleased to announce the promotion of Jordan Powell to Credera’s partner team.
"In the 9 years Jordan has been with Credera, he has consistently grown his accounts while always intentionally caring for our people," said Global CEO Justin Bell. "Jordan brings strong client delivery chops, people leadership, and large account management experience to the partner team. I’m grateful to watch Jordan step into this new chapter with Credera."
Jordan joined Credera in the Dallas office as an Architect in 2013. He’s currently focused on client success and mentoring future leaders of the firm. He especially loves guiding clients through the process of prioritizing worthwhile projects with measurable impact. Additionally, he enjoys bridging the gap between business strategy and technology execution, collaborating on solutions to complex challenges, and optimizing and simplifying processes.
Throughout his career, Jordan has almost 20 years of experience working with clients ranging from growth-stage startups to Fortune 500 companies in numerous industries such as ecommerce marketplaces, banking, automotive, retail, and more. Prior to joining Credera, Jordan spent nearly a decade automating and streamlining the lending lifecycle for over a dozen of the top 50 banks in North America.
Jordan earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Harding University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Dallas. Outside of the office, Jordan loves to spend time with his wife Kimberlee and their two children as they seek adventures traveling, trying new games and sports, landscaping, and volunteering at their local church and food bank.
We sat down with Jordan to learn more about his journey toward joining the Credera partner team.
Q&A With Jordan Powell:
What are you focusing on at Credera?
My focus at Credera is helping clients and colleagues succeed. For clients this revolves around helping them focus on the right investments, working through both strategy and execution, rapidly prototyping new concepts, and coordinating across silos. My experience has typically focused on digital transformation and ecommerce marketplaces.
For my Credera colleagues, this means being in the trenches of tough but worthwhile projects, mentoring the next generation of leaders, and frankly giving talented people the space to do what they do best. I have had the privilege of working in both technology and strategy roles and love building teams that bring those two into harmony.
What were you doing prior to joining Credera?
I spent 10 years in banking consulting focused on modernizing and streamlining loan management for the top 50 banks in North America. This involved working on everything from process improvement initiatives, where we took commercial loan approval and funding from an average of five weeks down to one and a half days, to transitioning banks from green screen terminals to the internet. While my clients were all banks, the digital transformation and process improvement disciplines have served me well with a diverse set of clients.
How would you describe your approach to leadership?
This is hard to break down into a single approach, but here are a few principles I live by:
Attempt to follow a servant leadership model where I set up others to succeed. In some situations, this means hopping in to help a project over the finish line. In other situations, it means stepping back and giving someone else the chance to step up. Talented people who are empowered to take bold action can make rapid improvement.
Set up the team to succeed by choosing the right projects to invest in. Brilliant minds can waste their time perfecting solutions to problems that have no actual impact. Taking a step back and ensuring a particular project is the best use of time and resources sets everyone up for success in both the long and short term.
Create a safe space to fail. Failing fast allows a team to rapidly iterate on a solution versus being timid and trying to perfect an idea. I would rather have my team fail once an hour and then find a breakthrough at the end of the day versus staring at a whiteboard for a week and coming up with a perfect solution that has not been tested.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
I grow when I am:
Surrounded by people I respect and look up to. Having someone who inspires you to watch and emulate is extremely important. You will naturally absorb and imitate those you surround yourself with, so choosing that cohort is extremely important.
Stretched beyond what I think I can do. Growth happens when I am put into slightly uncomfortable stretch roles and supported by those who have done it before.
What are you most excited about now that you’re a part of the Credera partner team?
I am most excited by the energy and fire the newest Credera team members bring to the table. Being able to guide and enable those teammates and then see them excel makes my role most enjoyable. Seeing the impact they make with our clients is truly inspiring.
